Equate is a two-plane SNMP monitoring platform. The collector sees the customer network locally; the cloud plane persists and presents the monitoring evidence.

Customer plane

Poll configured SNMPv2c devices concurrently, detect supported Cisco and Arista profiles, and apply interface selection before telemetry leaves the site.

  • Local ownership: inventory, discovery, health evaluation, and buffered delivery.
  • Local-only operations: Bubble Tea TUI and Unix control socket.

Secure outbound telemetry

Device, interface, health, and heartbeat events are buffered in SQLite then published via authenticated MQTT/TLS with QoS 1.

  • Transport outage: polling continues while events remain buffered.
  • Cloud boundary: no inbound cloud management path is created.

Monitoring state and dashboard

Ingestion validates, deduplicates, and persists to PostgreSQL. A read-only API supplies the dashboard’s site, device, interface, component, and history views.

  • Source of truth: PostgreSQL, not MQTT or collector-local state.
  • Dashboard role: presentation, not device control or health inference.
Health evidence

Critical roots and impacted dependents stay distinct.

Every configured device is polled independently. A direct failure becomes Critical only after its failure threshold. A dependent becomes Unknown only when all configured upstream paths are unavailable.

Temperature can place a reachable device in Warning. CPU, memory, and power are displayed telemetry—not dashboard-side health thresholds.
